Attorneys who register under the county law library act do not pay city occupational taxes or city license fees in Kansas. You must be registered under that act to get the exemption.
In most counties, the chief judge now appoints the attorney members of the county law library board. Johnson, Sedgwick, and Douglas keep their current system. Attorney members still serve two-year terms. A board may let the chief judge use certain law‑library fees to improve district court functions. Judges cannot vote on that decision, and this fee‑use option does not apply in Johnson or Sedgwick counties.
When an arrest warrant is sought in a criminal or juvenile case, the case is sealed. It stays sealed until the warrant is served or the court denies the request. Subpoenas are sealed too and unsealed only if the court finds it is in the interest of justice. Law enforcement can still see records to execute warrants or serve subpoenas. This also applies to pending cases and does not cover warrants issued under K.S.A. 22-2807. In any civil or criminal case, a court can hold a hearing to seal records or close a proceeding, but must give notice to all parties and, in criminal cases, to the victim if known. The court must write why sealing or closure is needed and show that harm outweighs the public interest; party agreement alone is not enough.
