The law ends the state property tax levies that supported the Kansas educational and state institutions building funds. Your property tax bill no longer includes these state-level charges.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the state sends $56 million to the Kansas educational building fund. Starting July 1, 2027, that amount grows each year by the 10-year average change in statewide taxable value, not below zero. The property valuation director certifies that percent by February 1 each year. The state also sends $25 million to the state institutions building fund on July 1, 2026. Each year after 2026, that transfer rises by $500,000. All transfers come from the state general fund.
