When a county funds a conservation district, the state pays $2 for every $1 from the county. The state's share is capped at $50,000 per district each year starting in fiscal year 2026. Payments depend on legislative funding. If money is short, the state prorates payments across districts. Amounts are based on county allocations that districts certify to the state.
Each conservation district must certify by November 1 how much county money it will get for the next year. The certified amount must match the county’s approved budget. The Division and districts must use municipal accounting rules for these funds. The law repeals the prior version of K.S.A. 2-1907c as part of these updates.
