The State Board of Education uses a new method to set four-year graduation rates for every district and school, including virtual schools. The Board does not count students who transferred in after completing grade eight and, at first enrollment, did not have enough credits to graduate in the same school year as their cohort. It also does not count students who left for a nonaccredited private school in Kansas or another state. For virtual schools, the Board counts only students who had enough credits when they first enrolled. A virtual school’s rate is reported in addition to the district’s other high schools.
Virtual schools cannot give money or similar payments to get students to enroll. A financial incentive means any cash payment or award meant to encourage enrollment. Families can no longer receive enrollment bonuses from virtual schools.
