Jurors can donate pay to child advocates

The law creates a two-year pilot in all Louisiana judicial district courts. Jurors can voluntarily donate their entire daily jury pay to the recognized Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. Donors give up that pay rather than receive it. Clerks must explain the choice, ensure informed consent, and collect and send donations monthly under financial-management standards. CASA is the pilot’s only recipient and must use the money solely for its mission of helping children in court. CASA provides tax receipts using donor details supplied by clerks. Clerks must explain that donations may be tax-deductible; eligibility depends on existing tax rules. Donor identities, contact details, and donation amounts are confidential and exempt from public-records disclosure.
