Firefighters keep qualifying raises outside divorce splits

Louisiana law excludes certain full-time firefighter pay increases when former spouses cannot agree on dividing community property. The increase must occur after the marriage’s community-property period ends. It must require passing both a written exam and a working test. The firefighter keeps that increase outside the former spouse’s share, reducing what the former spouse receives. This rule overrides conflicting laws.
