Temporary alcohol permit limits for Louisiana businesses

From August 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027, Louisiana blocks certain new alcohol permits in Louisiana House District 2. The limit covers Class B or Class C premises with less than 5,000 square feet of public habitable floor area. Premises in the Shreveport Downtown Development District or Bossier City are exempt. Another exemption covers premises purchased by the owner of another licensed premises. The purchased premises must not violate federal, state, or local law at acquisition. Permits valid on August 1, 2026, can continue and be renewed while holders follow applicable laws and local ordinances. Holders lose renewal eligibility if the business stops operating or the permit becomes invalid for any period. During the restriction, existing holders also cannot get permits for additional locations in the district.
