Government fee delays and settlement deductions

The law adds electronic filing charges for civil and criminal cases to the court costs eligible for delayed payment. Covered charges include clerk and vendor costs, user and recording fees, and related convenience, transaction, and service fees. Government bodies remain responsible for deferred costs assessed against them or their agents, officers, or employees, unless individuals are personally responsible. The law removes the prior 30-day payment requirement. After a judgment against the government or its personnel, payment waits until all case issues are resolved and appeal or review is no longer available. Cost assessments can also be included in judgments dismissing claims against the government or its agents. The government must deduct court costs owed by opposing parties from settlement payments and send that money to the court clerk.
