Travel help for student council member

Louisiana’s Board of Regents may pay the student member’s travel and lodging costs to attend Black college advisory council meetings. Payment is optional, and the law sets no dollar amount. Council members receive no pay for serving but may receive expense reimbursement as provided by their appointing authority.

Louisiana expands Black college advisory council

The law expands Louisiana’s Advisory Council on Historically Black Colleges and Universities from 24 to 26 members. It includes a student body president chosen annually by Louisiana’s public and private Black college student body presidents. The council chair appoints an at-large member who serves no more than two years. The Black Caucus chair appoints another caucus member from the legislative chamber opposite the chair’s own. The council must advise the higher education commissioner on strengthening these colleges and share best practices, including campus safety practices.
