Beginning December 31, 2025, Louisiana unemployment claimants must complete at least five work-search actions each week they claim benefits. They must also be able and available to work; the administrator decides which actions count. Following an approved reemployment plan satisfies active search only when the plan meets the five-action rule. Plans must be reasonable for similar unemployed workers, considering qualifications, travel distance, work history, and the job market. Without good cause, claimants can lose benefits for failing to apply for suitable work when directed, accept suitable work within the offer's deadline, or attend a scheduled interview. The same applies to ignoring directions to return to customary self-employment or join approved training. Disqualification lasts until claimants earn covered wages of at least 10 times their weekly benefit amount after the disqualifying week. Those wages can qualify under Louisiana, another state's, or federal unemployment law; claimants also must not have left their last work under disqualifying circumstances. Employers must report suspected work-search violations, and the administrator must provide an online or electronic reporting form to all employers. The administrator must tell employers at least annually why reporting matters.
