Beginning July 1, 2024, eligible Municipal Police Employees’ Retirement System members can extend their Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) participation. This option applies to members who entered DROP before July 1, 2024. They can add up to 2 years, raising the total limit from 3 years to 5 years. The actuarial note explains that extending participation can mean a larger lump-sum payment at retirement but a smaller yearly pension.
