More scholarship options for technical students
For otherwise eligible Louisiana students graduating high school in 2026–2027 or later, TOPS-Tech adds routes to qualify for tuition aid. Students must meet two of three tests: the agency-set core-course GPA, agency-set ACT score, or early college learning requirement. The third test requires at least nine academic or technical dual-enrollment credit hours, or equivalent skills or learning measures approved by the Statewide Articulation and Transfer Council. Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, recipients can maintain eligibility while enrolled full-time or part-time. They must make steady progress, stay enrolled unless excused, keep a cumulative 2.50 GPA on a 4.00 scale, and have no criminal convictions except misdemeanor traffic violations.
Part-time student aid depends on leftover funding
The state can pay part-time TOPS-Tech awards only from TOPS money left after full-time award obligations are covered. Part-time payments are not guaranteed, even when students qualify for the award. Payments can be reduced or unavailable when the remaining money runs out.
