Louisiana renews 17 agencies, sets end dates

The law re-creates 17 Louisiana regulatory agencies within the governor’s office beginning June 30, 2026. A later legislative veto override makes the effective date the day after that approval. These agencies oversee cosmetology, financial institutions, racing, cemeteries, accountants, architects, real estate agents, home inspectors, and contractors. They also oversee shorthand reporters, auctioneers, interior designers, real estate appraisers, athletics, new and used motor vehicles, and polygraphs. Their existing legal powers, including those of entities within them, continue under Louisiana’s agency renewal process. They begin ending operations on July 1, 2032, and their legal authority ends on July 1, 2033. They can be re-created before that deadline through the same state process. This law overrides conflicting state transition rules but does not set new licensing requirements, household fees, or benefits.
