Beginning July 1, 2025, qualifying antique vehicle purchases are exempt from Louisiana state and local sales and use taxes. Vehicles must have been made at least 35 years before the current year and be worth at least $10,000. They cannot be used commercially. Use in Louisiana movie production does not count as commercial use.
Beginning July 1, 2025, antique plates require vehicles and motorcycles to be at least 35 years old, up from 25. Owners must provide a notarized statement that the vehicle has not been and will not be materially changed from factory specifications. Use must mainly be for exhibitions, club activities, parades, other public-interest events, or necessary testing, maintenance, and storage. Tax-exempt antique vehicles carry a one-time $1,000 special-plate fee instead of $25—a $975 increase. That fee applies to vehicles meeting the 35-year age rule, worth at least $10,000, and not used commercially. Louisiana movie production does not count as commercial use.
