Simpler permits for oversized truck operators

Oversized vehicle operators still need a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development permit before using state highways. The department's secretary decides whether to issue it. The law removes this subsection's extra state-agency or local permit requirement, but the subsection does not apply in Bossier or Caddo Parish. When a permit allows interstate highway travel, the secretary can approve nighttime interstate travel at the owner's or operator's request. For one year after the law's effective date, local governments cannot adopt or implement new or revised oversized-vehicle permit requirements. During that year, they can still issue permits under existing requirements.
