Beginning January 20, 2026, renewed or new New Jersey vehicle inspection facility contracts give existing qualified, union-covered workers first offers for needed jobs. Employers set staffing needs, so jobs are not guaranteed. Offers to qualified new and existing workers must include pay and benefits matching or comparable to the existing contract’s current union agreement. This includes health benefits and paid time off; the Motor Vehicle Commission may specify benefits in its request for bids. These pay and benefit terms also bind successor businesses after a sale, an asset transfer that includes contracts, or a merger.
