More flexible care hours for families

Beginning April 20, 2026, eligible New Jersey families or guardians can use unused after-school care hours before official school hours. This applies to individuals up to age 21 with a developmental disability who are authorized for agency after-school care. The program must be contracted with the Division of Children’s System of Care to provide family support services. The unused hours must be offered by the same agency. Families can also use them during school closures on otherwise official school days within the individual’s 90-day authorization period.
