Parents get 90 days for newborn coverage

The law extends newborn enrollment deadlines under specified New Jersey hospital and medical service corporation plans. Family plans cover a subscriber’s or spouse’s newborn from birth for illness or injury, including diagnosed birth defects and abnormalities. To continue coverage beyond 90 days, plans may require birth notice and any required child payment within those 90 days. Under covered nonfamily plans, parents must apply and make any required payment within 90 days to add the newborn. The group-plan rule excludes subscribers whose coverage class has no dependent coverage. The law takes effect 60 days after January 7, 2026, and applies to contracts delivered, issued, executed, or renewed afterward.
