Easier permit paperwork for licensed trade contractors

Beginning May 1, 2026, New Jersey’s Department of Community Affairs must accept covered contractors’ electronic subcode permit forms and supporting documents. This covers licensed plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration contractors submitting materials for their trade. The department cannot require their physical seal or signature on those forms. It also cannot require physical seals on paper plans at their worksites when seal copies, including electronic seals, are provided.
