No waiting periods for yearly wellness visits

Beginning January 1, 2027, qualifying New Jersey health plans must cover one yearly wellness visit for members over age three. Plans cannot require a waiting period for that visit. The plan sets whether visits count by plan year or calendar year. The rule covers individual, group, state employee, and school employee health coverage issued or renewed on or after that date. For small-employer plans and HMO contracts, it applies when the insurer reserved the right to change premiums.
