Beginning July 1, 2025, covered New Jersey hospitals pay $12.50 per adjusted admission, up from $10. This covers general acute care, rehabilitation, long-term acute care, and non-public psychiatric hospitals. The money supports state health department duties and health planning costs. The law does not specify whether hospitals pass this cost to patients.
Starting in fiscal year 2026, covered New Jersey outpatient facilities pay 2.5% of gross receipts, down from 2.95%. The new rate provision states no $300,000 receipts threshold or $350,000 assessment cap. Previously exempt facilities must report operating-room receipts in fiscal year 2026. Starting in fiscal year 2027, they pay 2.5% of those receipts. Operating-room services include surgical or diagnostic procedures in rooms designed and equipped for them.
