More ceremony options for eligible couples

Beginning January 12, 2026, New Jersey county clerks, deputy county clerks, and municipal clerks can perform marriages and civil unions. This gives eligible couples more choices for who performs their ceremony. The law does not change who is legally allowed to marry or enter a civil union.
