Lower injury checks for some workers

Beginning January 12, 2026, New Jersey changes how employer-provided meals and lodging count toward workers’ compensation. These count as wages at market value unless the employer and worker set their value when hiring. For temporary total disability benefits, the calculation excludes meals or lodging the worker keeps receiving during that disability period. This can lower the worker’s cash benefit.
