Sports venues gain licenses with fees

Beginning March 12, 2025, New Jersey provides a sporting facility alcohol license for venues on public property, covering licenses issued or transferred from that date. It allows on-site alcohol sales and service, plus tastings that follow state sampling law and rules. License holders can share control and alcohol profits with venue owners, operators, lessees, or concessionaires, subject to the alcohol regulator’s conditions. Fees depend on capacity: $2,500 below 7,500; $5,000 for 7,500–14,999; $7,500 for 15,000–22,499; and $10,000 for 22,500 or more. Venues can have up to five all-inclusive areas; combined capacity per event cannot exceed 500 people or 5% of venue capacity, whichever is greater.

Tournament venues pay for expanded premium areas

Beginning March 12, 2025, New Jersey’s alcohol regulator can grant sporting facility license holders permits exceeding normal all-inclusive area limits. Venues must seat at least 50,000 and host a national or international tournament-level professional sporting event governed by a national or international sports federation or governing body. Fees are $2,000 per area per day, capped at $6,000 per day total. Each permit lasts for the event’s specified duration. The regulator can impose public health and safety conditions and require a bond or equivalent security.
