More privacy for students' financial-aid waivers

Beginning July 8, 2025, New Jersey school districts and charter schools face new privacy rules for financial-aid application opt-out waivers. They cannot use or share waivers or their personal information without informed consent from the student, parent, or guardian. Actions consistent with federal law remain allowed. Earlier waivers stay valid and receive these privacy protections. The state education department must prominently explain these rules on optional waiver templates it creates; schools must do the same on forms they create and use.
