Participating New Jersey counties can exceed the 2.5% county property tax levy cap to cover certain debt payments. This exception covers debt owed by a Regional Rehabilitation and Reentry Center Authority. Counties must send any added tax revenue from this exception to the authority. Property owners can face higher taxes, but the law does not require an increase or set its amount.
