Rutgers executives can hold two paid jobs

Qualifying Rutgers executives can work for and receive pay from both Rutgers and an affiliated contracting entity. They must oversee, supervise, or manage medical education, research, or clinical care tied to an affiliation agreement. These long-term agreements establish joint governance with New Jersey nonprofits to build an integrated academic health system. Eligible entities include those nonprofits, their in-state affiliates or subsidiaries, and entities formed or affiliated under the agreements. The law exempts dual-job pay and benefits from specified state conflict-of-interest and ethics rules. It also protects the dual employment from the specified ethics-code restriction. Existing labor rights, employer obligations, and subcontracting protections remain in place. The law took effect immediately but sets no pay amount and guarantees no extra income.
