Increases the number of properties eligible for the coastal market assistance program

Insurance help expands for riverfront homeowners

The law adds the Hudson and Saint Lawrence rivers to New York’s Coastal Market Assistance Program’s eligible shorelines. It sets a one-mile eligibility baseline, measured from mean high water. Covered shorelines also include saltwater oceans, sounds, bays and inlets, plus lakes Erie and Ontario and the Niagara River. The association runs the program and sets eligibility standards, subject to approval by the state insurance superintendent. It can set broader eligibility standards with that approval; location alone does not guarantee participation. The law takes effect on the same date and in the same manner as the related 2024 law identified in S. 8320-A and A. 9821.
