More coastal homes qualify for insurance help

Homes within one mile of the shore are eligible for the Coastal Market Assistance Program. “Shore” means the ocean, sounds, bays, inlets, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, the Saint Lawrence River, the Hudson River, and the Niagara River. Distance is measured from mean high water. The association runs the program and, with the superintendent’s approval, can set wider rules that cover more homes.
