Cortland shoppers pay extra 1% tax
The law authorizes Cortland County to charge an extra 1% sales and use tax. This 1% is added on top of other local taxes and the state cannot block it. The state’s 3% cap is calculated without counting this extra 1%. Retailers in Cortland must collect the added tax when the county imposes it.
