Starting January 1, 2027, the Centerport Volunteer Exempt Firefighter’s Benevolent Association collects existing fire-insurance taxes on premiums for property in the Centerport Fire District and areas served by its fire company. It also receives a share of another existing tax, based on insurance business written in those areas. The association can use this money for purposes listed in its incorporation law, not only to help disabled or indigent firefighters and their families. The law does not change tax rates.
