Counties cover tiny property tax rounding

Starting November 1, 2026, if your cash property tax payment is rounded, the county covers any extra or shortfall from its unappropriated general fund portion. Local governments may also choose which of their own funds absorb other small rounding differences.

Rounding rules for cash payments to government

Beginning November 1, 2026, state agencies must round the final total on cash payments. Local governments may round cash totals from November 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, and must round starting July 1, 2027. The cents rule is: 1–2 cents round down to 0, 3–4 up to 5, 6–7 down to 5, and 8–9 up to 10. For state agencies, rounding does not apply to payments of any tax levy. Rounding applies only to cash or the cash part of a payment; checks, cards, and electronic payments are not rounded.
