Tighter salary rules for disabled police officers
Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma municipal police officers must be undergoing treatment to receive salary during disability-related confinement. They must also be confined to a hospital bed or home and need medical care or professional nursing. That care must be necessary because of their illness or disability. Salary continuation remains limited to six months.
More certification options for disabled police officers
Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma police pension members have another certification option for mental-disability applications. The pension board may select a psychologist licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. This adds psychologists as an option alongside licensed physicians. The law also defines mental health specialists to include Oklahoma-licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, professional counselors, marital and family therapists, and behavioral practitioners.
