Oklahoma volunteer firefighters who qualify for retirement and retire on or after November 1, 2026, receive a new pension amount. They get $10 each month for every credited service year, up to 30 years, or $300 monthly. A partial year counts as a full year only when it includes at least six months. Earlier retirees keep their existing pension amounts.
Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma firefighter pension recipients get a one-time increase based on retirement length. They must have received system benefits on June 30, 2026, and continue receiving them on or after November 1. Retirement length is measured as of June 30, 2026: under 10 years gets 0%; 10 to under 20 gets 3%; 20 or more gets 6%. Any increase they are eligible for under the repealed pension-increase law after June 30, 2020, offsets this increase.
Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma uses a fixed $9,939.69 amount to decide whether compensated volunteer firefighters count as paid firefighters. This replaces an amount tied to the pension for a firefighter with 20 years of service. The annual compensation test also addresses expense reimbursements above $9,939.69. Members classified as paid firefighters must meet physical and agility requirements to stay active in the retirement system.
