Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma practitioners can prescribe an initial seven-day opioid supply for acute pain in smaller, divided amounts. They can also divide a later seven-day prescription; each divided prescription counts as one prescription under the law. This flexibility leaves the seven-day supply limit and existing safety rules unchanged. The later prescription still requires patient consultation and issuance at least seven days after the initial prescription. The practitioner must document that it is needed, appropriate, and poses no undue risk of abuse, addiction, or diversion.
