Discipline can end your multistate practice

A remote state can limit, suspend, or revoke your Compact Privilege. A limit in one remote state applies to your privileges in all other remote states. If your home-state license is encumbered, you lose all Compact Privileges until it is cleared. States report discipline and major investigations to the Compact data system.

Dentists and hygienists can work across states

Starting November 1, 2026, if you hold a qualifying, unencumbered dental or dental hygiene license in a participating state, you can apply for a Compact Privilege to practice in other participating states. You must have accredited education, pass an accepted national board exam, complete a clinical assessment, and meet any state law test (jurisprudence) where you want to work. You pay a Commission fee and any remote state fee; active-duty military members and spouses do not pay the Commission fee, and remote states may waive or cut theirs. You must keep your home-state license active and renewed, and keep required info current to keep each privilege.

Rules for Oklahoma to join the Compact

The Compact creates a multistate Commission once seven states enact it. The Commission runs a central data system, makes rules after public notice, and can charge fees. To join and stay in the Compact, Oklahoma must share licensure and discipline data, run background checks, accept set exams and accredited training, require clinical assessments and continuing education, follow Commission rules, and pay participation fees. Some contributed records stay non-public, and expunged records are removed.
