Faster timelines and court choice at Labor Mediation Office

If the Labor Standards Bureau sends a complaint, the Office must hold mediation or a hearing within 20 days. Parties are told they have the right to a lawyer. You may choose the Office instead of the Court of First Instance. After the hearing closes, the Office must issue a decision within 60 days. These changes take effect immediately.

Labor Mediation Office handles wage and religious claims

The Office of Mediation and Adjudication now hears minimum‑wage shortfall claims under Puerto Rico’s Minimum Wage Law. It also hears claims for religious accommodation under Article 2.19 of Law 4‑2017. The Labor Secretary can add other dispute types by regulation, but in those added cases the Office cannot award money damages. These changes take effect immediately.
