Every municipality names a domestic violence liaison

The law requires every municipality to name a municipal official as a liaison for women’s affairs and victims of domestic violence. This person is the first local contact for victims and survivors. They explain your rights, help with protection orders, and connect you to the Office of the Women’s Advocate and other services. The liaison must complete six hours of specialized training each year from the Office of the Women’s Advocate. Before naming a liaison, the municipality must adopt privacy rules that meet Law 54’s confidentiality standard. The law takes effect now, and towns have 90 days from that date to comply.
