Retired license option for senior professionals

Beginning January 1, 2027, if you are 65 or older and hold a Rhode Island professional license, you can renew it as a retirement-status license. To apply, send the Division your original license and a Division form saying you are retired and will not practice. The fee is $20. If approved, the Division returns your original license marked “Retired.” While you hold this retired license, you may not practice or offer to practice; usual penalties apply for violations. You can restore active status by filing the reinstatement form, paying the then-current annual fee, and showing you completed the latest continuing education. The Division may grant retired status to someone under 65 for good cause.
