Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

Fees and funds for RAMP plate

You pay a one-time $40 surcharge when you get the plate. $20 goes to the state and $20 goes each year to RAMP for accessibility programs. Each renewal adds a $10 surcharge, which goes to RAMP. RAMP must spend Rhode Island plate money on Rhode Island charities and file an annual accounting before money is paid. There are no refunds if you cancel the plate early.

Real Access Motivates Progress plate

Beginning six months after passage, the DMV offers a Real Access Motivates Progress (RAMP) specialty plate. It replaces your regular plates and uses the same registration number. You must carry the registration certificate and return your old plates. The design is set with the DMV and approved by the State Police. Plates are made only after the minimum prepaid orders are met, with DMV prepayment rules and RAMP handling the first order.
