Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

New fees and funding for cancer plate

If you choose this plate, you pay a $40 issuance charge on top of the normal registration fee. Of that $40, $20 goes to the state’s general fund and $20 to the Partnership. The Partnership’s share is paid each year. Each time you renew, you pay an extra $10, and that $10 goes to the Partnership. The Partnership must use Rhode Island‑sourced plate funds for Rhode Island charities that raise colon cancer awareness and must file a yearly accounting before money is paid.

New colon cancer awareness license plate

You can now get a Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island license plate to support colon cancer awareness. The plate replaces your regular plate and keeps the same number. Carry your registration card as usual. The DMV and the Partnership set the design, and State Police approve it. The plate is not made until a minimum number of prepaid orders is met. The Partnership handles the first order, and the DMV sets prepayment steps. There are no refunds if you cancel the plate early.
