Beginning June 30, 2025, the law provides $500,000 from South Dakota’s general fund for student teacher stipend grants. The Department of Education may use up to 5% for administration. School districts and department-accredited schools apply from July 1 through August 15. Each district or school can receive up to $5,000 total, shared among one or more student teachers. Stipends support student teachers placed there during the school year immediately after the application period. Student teachers receiving stipends must hold a department-issued Student Teacher Permit or Advanced Student Teacher Permit.
