Doctors with an unrestricted medical or osteopathic license from another state can train at a South Dakota facility without a South Dakota license. Training is limited to 90 days. A South Dakota-licensed doctor in good standing must directly supervise, staying physically present and readily available in the same facility. Before starting, trainees must use the board’s registration form to identify their supervisor, training purpose, and expected duration. They must also provide proof of active malpractice insurance and pay $50. Trainees submit to the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners’ authority and face the same oversight and discipline as state licensees. The law also confirms this authority over doctors practicing under existing nonresident practice rules.
