Higher road charges for property owners

After a petition hearing, township supervisors can set road-improvement charges without the former limit tied to the petition amount. These charges are collected with property taxes and can fund road improvements only in the assessed district or part of it. Township boards can also charge owners annually based on property frontage to maintain, repair, or repave street surfaces or non-section-line roads. These annual charges apply to property fronting and touching the road, with rates set at the annual township meeting. County commissioners can levy these annual charges when a township is no longer organized and must follow the applicable township-board procedures.
