The Tennessee Comptroller now reviews foundational literacy plans that districts send to the Department of Education. The review checks if each plan follows state law and State Board of Education rules. It notes whether the plan was first approved or denied and what changes were required. The Comptroller also reviews literacy data, practices, and outcomes. The Department must provide any requested information as soon as practicable. Every three years, the Comptroller sends a report to the Senate education chair, the House chair over student literacy, and the State Board of Education, and posts it online.
