New limits on roadside job dealings

Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee bans vehicle occupants from parking, stopping, or leaving vehicles standing where they block normal traffic. This ban applies when seeking, negotiating, or completing a work deal with someone standing on or near the street or highway. Violations of Tennessee Code Section 55-8-139 generally count as Class C misdemeanors. The new roadside work-deal offense becomes a Class B misdemeanor if the vehicle causes or contributes to a crash. A first violation of subsection (c), a separate rule within that section, gets a warning citation.
