School employees can record retake grades
Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee law protects school employees who change, create, or copy qualifying grades in school records. The student must earn the grade through a program allowing retakes of failed courses, exams, or assignments for credit. Recording these grades does not violate the state's student-record law. This exception does not create a separate right to retake schoolwork.
