Using child interview videos in court

The law sets clear rules for video-recorded child forensic interviews in Tennessee courts. The child or the interviewer must testify under oath that the video is a true and correct record. The child must be available for cross-examination. An interview is not thrown out just because the child advocacy center uses one national accreditor or lacks signatures from every local police agency, if the center, the Department of Children’s Services, and the district attorney have signed a joint protocol. Interviews by federal agencies can still be admitted under applicable rules. This law is now in effect.
