TennCare and CoverKids may cover team mental health care

Beginning January 1, 2026, TennCare and CoverKids can cover psychiatric collaborative care. Coverage is available when the state finds the care medically necessary. This team model links your primary doctor, a care manager, and a psychiatric consultant.

Health plans must cover collaborative mental health care

Beginning January 1, 2026, health plans that cover mental health or substance use must cover team‑based psychiatric care. Plans must pay for services delivered through a psychiatric collaborative care model (PCCM). A plan can deny PCCM care that is not medically necessary. A PCCM links your primary doctor, a care manager, and a psychiatric consultant. The law does not set payment rates.
