Health plans can skip excepted benefits

Beginning July 1, 2025, "excepted benefits" (section 56-7-2802) are exempt from state coverage mandates. They do not have to cover a specific person, provider, treatment, service, condition, or disease unless a law says so. This applies to policies or contracts entered into, issued, delivered, amended, or renewed on or after that date. Insurers can drop or limit these benefits, which can raise out-of-pocket costs for enrollees.
