Fewer coverage protections for some Tennessee policyholders
Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee exempts “excepted benefits,” as defined in state law § 56-7-2802, from general state coverage requirements. These benefits need not cover specific people, providers, treatments, services, conditions, or diseases. Coverage remains required when a law expressly requires it for those excepted benefits. The exemption applies to insurance policies or contracts entered into, issued, delivered, amended, or renewed on or after that date.
