Working prisoners pay monitoring costs from wages
Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee sheriffs must deduct electronic monitoring device costs from prisoners’ wages for paid work release. The county or state, as applicable, must pay the device provider directly. For unpaid work release, the entity using the prisoner’s work must pay the device costs. The law also removes the January 1, 2024, start-date wording from the related monitoring rule.
